Most are aware of Botox and Xeomin to treat wrinkles due to overactive muscles for the 11’s in between the eyebrows, the forehead and the crow’s feet. But what about some of the more unusual places to use Botox or Xeomin?
TMJ grinding and wide jawline
The masseter muscles that give fullness to the sides of the jaw can also be associated with pain in the jaw, called TMJ. The muscles can also give a boxy, masculine appearance to the jawline. It’s possible to treat pain associated with TMJ and grinding with Botox or Xeomin. They also narrow the jawline, giving more of a heart-shape appearance.
Smoker’s lip lines or gummy smile
Overactive muscles combined with thin skin can showcase “smoker’s” lines to the upper lip even in non-smokers. Botox and Xeomin can relax the muscles and also relax these lines.
Treatment to the upper lip also reduces the lift of the upper lip and can better disguise a gummy smile. Keep in mind that any treatment to relax the upper lip muscles can result in difficulty sucking out of a straw or puckering the lips.
Downturned smile
Treatment of the DAO – depressor anguli oris – to the sides of the chin can allow an unopposed lift of the corners of the mouth. Thus turning that frown upside down!
Golf ball chin
The mentalis muscle in the chin can cause a bumpy, golf ball appearance. By injecting Botox or Xeomin to this area, the chin will smooth out.
Neck bands
If a patient has neck bands due to a tight, overactive platysma muscle, Botox or Xeomin can relax these bands. But if the bands are due to excess or loose skin, these injections probably won’t help.
Armpits and palms
Who would’ve thought Botox/Xeomin could relax facial muscles and also reduce sweating in the armpits and palms. Through the same basic mechanism, the same chemicals that stimulate muscles also stimulate sweat. Botox and Xeomin block both of them.
By injecting Botox or Xeomin just under the skin of the hands, sweat glands are affected but the muscles deeper in the hands aren’t.
Scrotox
There’s something about relaxing the muscles of the scrotum so they hang low that men just can’t do without!
