Roger Hernandez, Assemblyman for California’s 48th District, recently introduced the legislation, AB 1558, to the California Assembly that would promote the implementation of a website to provide price transparency in healthcare for California’s citizens. After hearing about this legislation on Capital Public Radio, this sounded like opportunity knocking!
BuildMyBod is a website/platform that already provides price transparency for the cost of healthcare being delivered by plastic surgeons, dermatologists and primary care doctors! Via Twitter, we contacted Assemblyman Hernandez’ office and they were very quick to respond. So we packed up the BuildMyBod Price Transparency Express (just kidding, we don’t have a bus or van named the Price Transparency Express!) and made the 1.5 hour trek to Sacramento’s State House to meet with the Assemblyman’s staff.
We had a great meeting, giving his staff an overview of our platform for price transparency and how there would be no need to start building a platform from scratch since we already built it! Obviously this is just the first step in a long road to bringing price transparency to California. Hopefully we’ll be able to take part in upcoming hearings in front of the Assembly Health Committee. Stay tuned for our progress!
