Controversy in Posting Plastic Surgery Pricing

Why is it so hard to find pricing on plastic surgery. Sure there are websites that list national averages but that’s not what you want. Not only are those averages often EXcluding operating room fees and other ancillary fees, but what if you want multiple procedures. Do you add the low end of ranges or the high end of ranges for those procedures. More importantly, why don’t a vast majority of plastic surgeons post their prices on their website? Are they just being difficult?

The answer is no, they’re not trying to be difficult but there are reasons plastic surgeons are weary of posting their pricing. First off, there are many factors that go into the cost of plastic surgery. As alluded to above, surgeon’s fees, OR fees, anesthesia fees, whether postoperative garments or implants are needed, really complicate the picture. So it’s very difficult to post various procedures and explain in the space required on a webpage what’s involved. Also, often times, plastic surgery pricing is dependent on how long the operation is since OR fees change based on time.

For all of these reasons, it’s difficult to clearly and concisely post pricing on a static webpage without confusing the patient. And as you well know, if you call the office, the front desk receptionist typically avoids going into pricing because they’re not familiar with the entire fee schedule and the doctor’s worried you’ll be scared off if you only receive a price without a thorough explanation.

Finally, the plastic surgeon doesn’t want to broadcast all of their pricing without getting something in return, namely the interested consumer’s contact info. They’re happy to provide you plastic surgery pricing information as long as you’re willing to show them you’re serious by providing your name, email address, phone number or comparable method of contact. And on a static webpage, you can’t know who’s checking out your pricing.

To satisfy the consumer’s curiosity and in return, provide the plastic surgeon with your contact information, there’s finally a website that provides answers and solutions to both parties. And if you are lucky enough to have a BuildMyBod board-certified plastic surgeon in your area, you can find them here and even see their pricing page embedded into their website, like here.

Hope this helps!
