According to figures released recently by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, fewer women in the UK had breast augmentation surgery last year—and a lot more underwent an eyebrow lift, among other things.
The BAAPS says that the number of women in Britain who sought out breast implants last year dropped by 1.6 percent and the number who elected for liposuction went down by 14 percent, while eyebrow lifts increased by 17 percent. A number of other procedures saw a boost in popularity in 2012 as well, including eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), neck lifts, and fat transfers, all of which went up by 13 percent.
Interestingly enough, these trends aren’t limited to Britain—they pretty accurately mirror what happened in the U.S. last year, in fact. According to the ASPS, we saw a 7 percent decrease in the number of breast augmentation procedures and a 1 percent decrease in liposuction procedures in 2012, while facelifts and eyelid surgeries went up by 6 percent and 4 percent, respectively.
Even with the slight drop in demand, of course, breast augmentation is still the most popular procedure on both sides of the pond, and it probably will be for some time to come. But if breast implant numbers keep dropping and the numbers of the other procedures keep rising, a new procedure may claim the top spot before long.
